WEIGHT LOSS EXERCISES

WALKING BENEFITS

Information: weight loss exercises. Walking is a natural physical activity that can be carried out easily. It is inexpensive, aerobic, dynamic, and safe.

It is for this reason that researches and practitioners have been interested in walking and obtaining firm scientific knowledge of the health effects of walking.

There is growing evidence of the benefits of walking in the prevention of heart attack, in the treatment of hypertension, intermittent claudication and musculoskeletal disorders, in rehabilitation after heart attack, and in the prevention of chronic respiratory disease.

Walking also expends energy, thus assisting in the long-term control of body weight, and activates the metabolism of high-density lipoproteins and insulin, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and non-insulin dependent diabetes in adulthood.

As well as being a weight-bearing activity and a suitable mode of exercise at all ages, walking is also beneficial to bone strength.

During walking, the main metabolic fuels used by the muscles are blood glucose and fat. The increased glucose uptake in muscles induced by exercise improves the body's glucose tolerance by enhancing the sensitivity to insulin of skeletal muscle.

In type II, non-insulin-dependent, diabetes the main lesion is insulin resistance. Skeletal muscle is the body's principal insulin-sensitive tissue, and since walking involves more than half of the total skeletal muscles, walking exercise may reduce the risk of developing type II diabetes.

More research is needed on the role of walking in the treatment of patients with type II diabetes, but the research data presently available suggest that walking can also play an important role in the treatment process.
